Jeep Winches – WARN, Mile Marker, & Smittybilt Winch

Comments 486 Jeep Winches – WARN, Mile Marker, & Smittybilt Winch

It’s a beautiful, sunny day. You’re hitting the trails in your Jeep, feeling the warm sun and a cool breeze (perfect combination). Then it happens – you get stuck. It can take hours and a lot of money to have a tow truck come get you out, but if you have a winch it’s a non-issue. For the February vote, you choose which of 3 great Jeep winches will be installed on this JK: WARN, Mile Marker, or Smittybilt.

A Jeep winch is a definite investment, but it’s one of those parts that can save you enormous amounts of money in the long run. You can’t always predict what the conditions are going to be when you’re off-roading; heck, that’s part of the fun! But when something unexpected happens and you get stuck in a remote location, towing fees can be outrageous. It’s so much easier and cheaper if you have a winch so you can pull yourself out.

Choose which of these 3 great Jeep winches you think should go on the JK:

WARN PowerPlant Dual Force HP Winch & Air Compressor

The obvious benefit of this WARN winch is that it’s not just a winch – it’s an air compressor too! That means with this one item you’ll be able to winch your vehicle, fill up any flat tires, and power air tools as well. No other winch is going to offer that kind of versatility. Plus, it won’t require any extra wiring or plumbing, making it an easy install.

Specs for the WARN PowerPlant winch:

  • Rated Line Pull: 9,500 lbs
  • Motor: 12v
  • Horsepower: 4.6
  • Gear Ratio: 156:1
  • 5/16 inch Wire Rope: 125 ft
  • Roller Fairlead

Mile Marker HI10500 Hydraulic Winch

It may not have an air compressor, but there are a couple of ways this Mile Marker winch sets itself apart. First of all, it has the highest load capacity with 10,500 lbs. But the biggest difference is that it’s a hydraulic winch, whereas the other two are electric. This means that you’ll never have to worry about running out of power when you’re winching. The winch hooks up to the power steering pump for a constant supply of energy. As long as the engine keeps running, so will the winch. And it even works in mud and water!

Specs for the Mile Marker HI10500 winch:

  • Rated Line Pull: 10,500 lbs
  • Voltage: 12v
  • Gear Ratio: 6:1
  • Wire Cable: 100 ft
  • Roller Fairlead

Smittybilt XRC-10 Comp Series Winch

There are many people who like to keep things simple; if it’s too fancy, it’s not for them. This Smittybilt winch would fall under that category. There aren’t many bells and whistles. What you get is a straightforward, powerful winch that you will be able to rely on again and again. The muscle of this Smittybilt winch offers the heavy-duty toughness you need in a winching situation.

Specs for the Smittybilt XRC10 Winch:

  • Rated Line Pull: 10,000 lbs
  • Motor: 12v
  • Horsepower: 5.5
  • Gear Ratio: 218:1
  • Synthetic Rope: 94 ft
  • Aluminum Fairlead

As an extra feature, we’ll be installing the Bestop HighRock 4×4 slider step. These great Jeep parts act like a nerf bar when they’re in the up position. Then you can just slide it down and it’s a convenient step pad.

About Warn Industries: They started by producing locking hubs for WWII, but Warn Industries really made their name when they developed the first recreational winch in 1959.

About Mile Marker: Mile Marker is known as an innovator of high quality hydraulic winches. Today, Mile Marker is still the only approved winch for the US Military’s HMMWV (Humvee).

About Smittybilt: Basil Smith, the founder of Smittybilt, was one of the original four wheel drive enthusiasts. Today, his passion for creating 4wd equipment is evident in over 2,000 products.

I like the ideal of the “Warn” because of the onboard air compressor.
We always seem to be going somewhere where someone has low tire pressure.

The warn is the best pick,It offers so much more then the other winches. If a winch has a air compressor that mans more air tools like having an impact gun at a remote spot. Also the air compressor helps getting air and having the ablilitly to use air tools on a trail if something breaks and so u dont have to keep running to the shop or others garges. The warn gets the job done and more.Im 17 and when i get a off road truck or jeep i will make sure warn will be my winch.

  • Feb 25 @ 10:18amDennis Black says:

Warn winch. Guess the Mile Marker won’t work if the battery is dead anyway,so,might as well have the air compressor to go along with a great looking winch! D

  • Feb 25 @ 10:24amJon del Pozo says:

Well now. Having owned several of the Warn 84 series, I think they have priced themselves out. I purchased a Smittybilt RC and its still going strong. Not only is the weight right for a TJ but the proce is right on for the wallet.

  • Feb 25 @ 10:51amNina says:

    Goodluck!!
Warn is the best, especially with all the snow in Illinois.

  • Feb 25 @ 12:29pmTravis says:

I use to work at uhaul were we used warns everyday pulling trailers on to carriers. Plus I DID have one on my jeep. Warns worked well UNTIL they break and you have to get them serviced. Which happened a lot. They were terrible to deal with and they make you pay for shipping both ways plus parts. For the price they are very OVERATED!!!! Save urself some money buy a smittybilt.

  • Feb 25 @ 12:30pmSteve says:

I have been very happy with my 12 volt, 8000lb Mile Marker winch. I can’t wait to experience the power of hydraulics.

  • Feb 25 @ 13:19pmj says:

i would suggest to go with the mile marker, as a pneumatic, it requires no battery power which means less system drain and more reliability.i would go with that, even though i do like the idea of the air compressor, i think it is too great of a drain on the electrical system.

  • Feb 25 @ 15:32pmGeorge says:

I can’t wait to sit in the drivers seat.

  • Feb 25 @ 15:52pmstephanie says:

i can’t wait to drive this beautiful jeep.

  • Feb 25 @ 16:53pmXJ TAO says:

I like smittybilt winches. It is very durable. I am surprised they did not add XRC 10HD in compention. It is in my wish list. Also price just right for my budget ;0).. I do admire warn brand. But it is too expensive. So, I vote for XRC 10.

  • Feb 25 @ 17:14pmDonna says:

    It’s a jeep thing!

  • Feb 25 @ 17:22pmAndy says:

You’re all invited for a ride in this one when I win it!

  • Feb 25 @ 17:51pmRichard Lunsford says:

Warn as I have one on my pickup. Mine is about ten years old and has been great.
