Jeep Winches – WARN, Mile Marker, & Smittybilt Winch

Comments 486 Jeep Winches – WARN, Mile Marker, & Smittybilt Winch

It’s a beautiful, sunny day. You’re hitting the trails in your Jeep, feeling the warm sun and a cool breeze (perfect combination). Then it happens – you get stuck. It can take hours and a lot of money to have a tow truck come get you out, but if you have a winch it’s a non-issue. For the February vote, you choose which of 3 great Jeep winches will be installed on this JK: WARN, Mile Marker, or Smittybilt.

A Jeep winch is a definite investment, but it’s one of those parts that can save you enormous amounts of money in the long run. You can’t always predict what the conditions are going to be when you’re off-roading; heck, that’s part of the fun! But when something unexpected happens and you get stuck in a remote location, towing fees can be outrageous. It’s so much easier and cheaper if you have a winch so you can pull yourself out.

Choose which of these 3 great Jeep winches you think should go on the JK:

WARN PowerPlant Dual Force HP Winch & Air Compressor

The obvious benefit of this WARN winch is that it’s not just a winch – it’s an air compressor too! That means with this one item you’ll be able to winch your vehicle, fill up any flat tires, and power air tools as well. No other winch is going to offer that kind of versatility. Plus, it won’t require any extra wiring or plumbing, making it an easy install.

Specs for the WARN PowerPlant winch:

  • Rated Line Pull: 9,500 lbs
  • Motor: 12v
  • Horsepower: 4.6
  • Gear Ratio: 156:1
  • 5/16 inch Wire Rope: 125 ft
  • Roller Fairlead

Mile Marker HI10500 Hydraulic Winch

It may not have an air compressor, but there are a couple of ways this Mile Marker winch sets itself apart. First of all, it has the highest load capacity with 10,500 lbs. But the biggest difference is that it’s a hydraulic winch, whereas the other two are electric. This means that you’ll never have to worry about running out of power when you’re winching. The winch hooks up to the power steering pump for a constant supply of energy. As long as the engine keeps running, so will the winch. And it even works in mud and water!

Specs for the Mile Marker HI10500 winch:

  • Rated Line Pull: 10,500 lbs
  • Voltage: 12v
  • Gear Ratio: 6:1
  • Wire Cable: 100 ft
  • Roller Fairlead

Smittybilt XRC-10 Comp Series Winch

There are many people who like to keep things simple; if it’s too fancy, it’s not for them. This Smittybilt winch would fall under that category. There aren’t many bells and whistles. What you get is a straightforward, powerful winch that you will be able to rely on again and again. The muscle of this Smittybilt winch offers the heavy-duty toughness you need in a winching situation.

Specs for the Smittybilt XRC10 Winch:

  • Rated Line Pull: 10,000 lbs
  • Motor: 12v
  • Horsepower: 5.5
  • Gear Ratio: 218:1
  • Synthetic Rope: 94 ft
  • Aluminum Fairlead

As an extra feature, we’ll be installing the Bestop HighRock 4×4 slider step. These great Jeep parts act like a nerf bar when they’re in the up position. Then you can just slide it down and it’s a convenient step pad.

About Warn Industries: They started by producing locking hubs for WWII, but Warn Industries really made their name when they developed the first recreational winch in 1959.

About Mile Marker: Mile Marker is known as an innovator of high quality hydraulic winches. Today, Mile Marker is still the only approved winch for the US Military’s HMMWV (Humvee).

About Smittybilt: Basil Smith, the founder of Smittybilt, was one of the original four wheel drive enthusiasts. Today, his passion for creating 4wd equipment is evident in over 2,000 products.

WARN PowerPlant Dual Force HP Winch & Air Compressor has my vote.

What an awesome product. You have about everything you need in an emergency.

Have to say, “Nothing beats a Jeep”. We have owned a ‘49 Willis Jeep Stationwagon way back and a CJ-7. As kids, both sets of parents owned Willis’. We both grew up “back in the country” and NEVER had a problem getting in and out–Jeep always comes through.

We haven’t been able to afford a Jeep for a long time. My dream has always been to have a yellow Jeep before I die–maybe one day. I love the four door Wrangler’s—I read the best rated vehicle for maneuvering in bad weather. Way to go Jeep!!!! We love you!!!!

i love the hydrolic pump to work most things – air compressors, air conditioning, but when i need a winch – there is always the likelyhood that the old yj isn’t running. Then what? – i’ll stick with Warn.

  • Feb 26 @ 14:52pmAmber Lear says:

    I vote for Warn.

Definately the warn!!! With their first winch being produced in 1959 you would think they must be doing something right. I’ve only owned warn winches and between their excellent performance and their great customer service you can’t get a better company for your winching application.

  • Feb 26 @ 17:06pmmike kotarba says:

Warn makes fine products like manual locking hubs and winches. I would go with the warn winch.

  • Feb 26 @ 21:10pmBK Bullock says:

I think that the most important thing about any give away it to help the
winners learn about the jeep, what can be done and not. the use of all the
extra’s that will be included, and safty at all times and clean up after
wheel’n in the NW roads and be conciderit of all wheelers.

  • Feb 27 @ 01:39amkelvin swiger says:

the hydrolic winch would be no help if the vehicle can not be started. the warn seems to match the hood line of a jeep its perfect match.

  • Feb 27 @ 01:53amcarlos says:

Mile marker all the way. Able to use underwater, no solenoids to fail. better long term investment

  • Feb 27 @ 02:44amDuncan says:

    Warn has always been KING!

If you want the best, you want a winch that is serviceable, not a throw away, get a Warn.

You can still get parts for Warn winch’s that are over 20 years old!

    Nuff said.
